Bivariate maps show two different data variables mapped against one another. This is useful for showing the relationship between the phenomena.
When creating bivariate or multivariate maps, it’s important not to overload your map with data to an extent that it becomes cluttered.
This map shows a distribution of two age categories across the United States, where the population over 65 years old is mapped against the population under 18 years old. Dark green colours show a high proportion of both age categories in that geographical region, while areas shaded in blues, show higher proportions of individuals under 18 years old. The key in the map should explain the other variations that are possible.
